Nathan, I am a huge fan of irony and I enjoyed your lesson very much. I think you balanced your lecture with your activity very well. Using a well known song from popular culture to help aid your lesson was really creative, and I could tell everyone enjoyed that! Great job!
Interesting topic. Very natural presentation style. Good introduction of the various terms and types of irony you meant to cover. I think you should try to make it clearer that the Alanis song is called ‘Ironic’ – if the student does not know this artist, it may take them a while to catch on that you are deconstructing the song and suggesting the lines are not actually examples of irony. I know it took me a couple of lines before I understood your intent. Frankly, I think her lines are examples of irony – unexpected twists of fate: http://www.macmillandictionary.com/us/dictionary/american/ironic Overall, good effort.
For Microteaching II: Very interesting topic: types of poetry. Good introduction of your question and coverage of the main idea. Fabulous exploration/discussion section: fun to do, you came around to guide and comment, we were genuinely interested in participating, really good choices of ‘poems’ for the handout.
